Safety & Compliance
Hazardous Waste ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and UNM policies and procedures, coordinates projects involving hazardous chemical waste, and conducts training programs in the handling of hazardous waste.
Chemical and Lab Safety assures compliance with applicable rules and is responsible for lab inventory as well as proper transport, acquisition, and disposal of chemicals.
Radiation Safety oversees the use of radioactive materials in research, provides necessary training, and helps procure requisite licenses.
Laser Safety under SRS oversees the use of non-medical, non-ionizing lasers in research, provides necessary training on point, and helps procure requisite licenses. For ionizing or medical laser safety, contact the HSC Radiation Office
Biohazard Compliance for Research protects non-vertebrate animals, oversees research involving recombinant DNA, biohazards, and selective agents, and helps secure the requisite licenses.
The OACC reviews animal care and use protocols and provides services and resources that investigators need to accomplish their research goals in this regard. The OACC ensures compliance with associated federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines.
The Industrial Security Department (ISD) is responsible for assisting faculty, staff, and students with the security measures necessary to safeguard Classified Information, Export Controlled Information, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Export Control regulates the shipment or transfer, by whatever means, of controlled items, software, technology, or services outside of the United States.
